Wrapup: Grizzlies lose to Pistons 74-96

Ben Gordon and Rip Hamilton looked unstoppable last night. Nobody on the Grizzlies could put a hand in their face, and the Piston's offense looked surprisingly well oiled for having a bunch of new weapons and a new head coach. In particular the Piston's second unit absolutely dominated the Grizzlies bench, which shot a combined 4-22 from the field. More specific, but still brief, insight over the jump.

Star-divide

In terms of players, Rudy Gay, Marc Gasol, and Zach Randolph all looked solid. Marc's effort definitely kept the Grizzlies' first unit in the game. The backcourt looked terrible, however, with O.J. Mayo and Mike Conley both looking soundly dominated by the Piston's threesome of Rip, Gordon, and Rodney Stuckey. Even Will Bynum got solid run off the bench, and looked like a real point guard, which is a bit shocking.

Overall this was a tough loss for the Grizz. Even if the second unit could have gotten their act together on offense, there wouldn't have been a win with O.J. and Conley doing absolutely nothing to slow the Piston's guard corp.

Oh, yeah, and the new jerseys -- couldn't be uglier. How embarrassing.
