GameThread: Memphis Grizzlies at Atlanta Hawks

Memphis Grizzlies at Atlanta Hawks, Dec 16, 2009 6:00 PM CST

Roadwarrior_l_medium

Me and the Grizzlies are both in traveling gear today...

No long preview today peoples, I've got traveling to do, but I'm getting up early to leave you this beautiful little gamethread so that you can write your own previews in the comment section.

Oh, and by the way, the Atlanta Hawks are really, really good this season, and traditionally play much better at home. Even though the boys in blue played the Celtics tough, life is not getting much easier for the Grizzlies.

Atlanta has one of the top 4 teams in the Eastern Conference.

They are one of the top 4 teams in the NBA in points scored per game. They don’t have the cachet that Phoenix San Antonio Boston or Orlando have, but are capable of embarrassing the opponent on any given night. A loss by the Grizzlies in a relatively close game should not be taken as an indictment against our current players but should rather be seen as another “lesson to be learned” on the road to respectability. They are in the easy part of their schedule and perhaps the Grizzlies can catch them on a “low energy night”.

ATL good

but we DID beat them last time we played (our starters vs their bench ).

I hope for another good one like the Boston and Cleveland games. I think ATL is as good as Cleveland and Orlando. I think Orlando would beat them in a 7 game series. but probably 3rd team east until Cleveland shows they are for real in post-season. but regular season only slightly matters for the elite teams anyway…..

that was an exhibition game

The biggest problem with the Hawks is consistency, or lack thereof. They beat the Celtics in Boston in one week but in the next fall to the Chris Paul-less Hornets in New Orleans. Two weeks later they blow out the Raptors 146-115 but then lose the next game to the Knicks (both games were in Atlanta).

Yet they’ve only lost 6 games in total. It’s still too early to tell whether they’ll have one of the top three seeds but they should be the dark horse favorites to come out of the East.

This should be a great game. Ya’ll have come on strong. We usually play great at home but would not want to play you on the road.

Only Cleveland has as many home wins as Atlanta

Boston and Orlando each have 2 less wins at home.

Grizz up 24-22 after 1

This is weird. Memphis looks like Atlanta. They’re playing up-tempo, chaotic, helter-skelter ball.

The Hawks may be toying with the Grizzlies and waiting for later in the game to turn it on.

Unlike the last game, Memphis doesn’t seem to have much success driving to the hoop.

Atlanta already has 7 TOs.

Abused in the second.

Dang. Atlanta is too tough at home, Grizzlies too bad on the road (like all young teams, ATL was this way last two years too)

Straight Outta Vancouver - The Memphis Grizzlies DO Still Exist

December was expected to be brutal. No surprise here.

When we were 1-8, I thought we could maybe win one or two games in December.

We’re 2-3 and have winnable games Friday when we host the Pacers and Tuesday when we host the Warriors.

If that is indeed the case our December record would be 4-9. That December record, if we kept pace, would extrapolate to 36 wins. And that is a significant improvement over the last several years. If we picked up an extra win each month we could be looking at almost a .500 season.

I’ll take 36 to 40 wins in a heartbeat.
