Memphis acquires Steven Hunter from the Nuggets

From http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AgzhQ2taj233B.fy9vUjKpu8vLYF?slug=aw-nuggetstrade080709&prov=yhoo&type=lgns :

Denver has traded Steven Hunter and a lottery-protected 2010 first-round pick to Memphis for a future second rounder, a league source told Y! Sports on Friday.

Trading Hunter saves $3.67 million in salary and luxury tax off Denver’s books and clears a roster spot.

*****************************************************************************************************************************

The Memphis Grizzlies get Steven Hunter from Denver, who could be a back-up to Zach Randolph as PF. He's 7'0 and can play PF or C. He's a good defender and has a good shooting percentage. They also get a first round pick, meaning a possible 15th pick although it could be as low as 30th.

Memphis only gives up a second-rounder, so nothing much.

Good Trade.

Memphis upgrades their position in the draft and gets a player that can potentially help their team.

No Clue.

I come back here for some decent discussion with loyal fans. I’m sure people who root for Memphis has to have them. Rooting for franchise that have been losing are awesome. (=

Denver Fan

I’m from Denver – take it from me – Steven Hunter won’t help your team other than as trade bait with his expiring contract. Thats why we probably had to give up the draft pick.

On a side note: Any chance you guys would trade us Gasol or what? we are short a big man out here. who would it take for the trade to be worth it?

Not going to speak in terms of Memphis fans,

but I would think that Memphis is a bit weak on defense also.

As a Clippersfan, I’d be willing to trade for JR Smith though. (=

Gasol...

Is probably close to untouchable. Unless the Nuggets were to blow the Grizzlies out of the water I see absolutely no way that a deal for him could happen.

Can you explain why he's so untouchable?

He’s not exactly a 20-10 guy…

Well...

Thabeet is nowhere near ready to play starters minutes, so Memphis would basically have to get Nene back, which would defeat the purpose of the trade for Denver. Gasol is incredibly cheap and Denver doesn’t have the young pieces to even things out w/o knocking the Grizzlies payroll way up, which isn’t viable for Heisley this season.

Also its not like the Grizzlies can just rotate every piece out of their lineup. Currently there are 5 well defined starters on the team, so I don’t expect to see any of them traded barring a very odd circumstance like a position player swap (e.g. center for center, SF for SF, etc.)
