Getting back to the playoffs = possible
The Grizz did a TERRIFIC job this off-season. We went out with a plan, and for once, executed. Wallace really did well. This is probably the best off-season since Jerry West, and that says a lot. I really feel like the Grizz have a serious shot at making the playoffs, and imagine this, winning a game in the post season.
My Home Opener predicted starters:
Allen Iverson
Marc Gasol (Hasheem Thabeet after like 4 games)

I am fine with the moves the Grizzlies made this offseason, and especially happy that we got Iverson. I just think we are a year or two away from competing for the playoffs even with the addition of the new players. I think we can definitely expect an improvement this year though.

I haven’t liked any of our draft picks except Sam Young maybe and if you were planning for ZBO and AI back in May I would say you should be committed. But it is what we got and it’s better than nothing. It’s better than Darko, Juan Carlos Navarro, from 2 years ago. Much better than Jaric and Greg Buckner. Much better than QRoss and Chucky Atkins. But I still covet a Chris Bosh on this team.
The Clippers and Pistons fans are certainly laughing at us right now. How did Detroit do in the playoffs?
Well...
I don’t see Iverson or Thabeet starting much this season, though I expect both will play relatively large roles off the bench (Iverson will probably get something like 24 minutes, Thabeet like 17 minutes.
Also I decline to comment on how many games the Grizzlies will win this year, but I will say that I think it’s going to take about 45 wins to get into the playoffs in the West this season. That means almost doubling from last season.
Straight Outta Vancouver - The Memphis Grizzlies DO Still Exist
Here is what I envision for the Grizz with that lineup
Gasol makes the inbound pass (why Gasol? because no one else will) to Iverson, Iverson dribbles and then shoots a three, he misses, Rudy and Z-Bo fight for the rebound and end up tipping it out to O.J., O.J. puts it back up, another miss, this time Z-Bo pushes Gay out of the way for the Rebound and puts it back up and in, 2 points, Z-Bo and Gay argue with one another while Gasol runs back to get on defense O.J. and Iverson just wait on the perimiter to get the ball back so they can shoot it… don’t mistake why he signed A.I. it wasn’t to win, it was to put fans in seats, A.I., Z-Bo, these guys will not win you games but they will get you a nice lottery pick in 2010.
Trade players for picks and draft Cole Aldrich 2010
P.S. since you really like that lineup, can we have Conley?

Well...
If our offensive rebounding is that good, than it sounds like a winning lineup to me.

I think the team will be better.
I’m a Blazer fan. Nobody was in love with Zbo and we were glad to get rid of him, but he is an extremely talented low post scorer. He murdered us last year. He’s older; if he’s ready to be wiser you might have a good player on your hands.
FWIW, Simmons thinks AI is going to be a monster this year. I don’t know if I buy it but it’s worth a flyer. I’m not too worried about any long term effect on your young guys. The new vets might cause temporary distractions but I think that the effect of teammates is overrated. You got some good guys and they’re not gong to suddenly turn bad.
AI 24 minutes? haha
that is absolutely laughable. i assure you he would not of signed here if he was only going to play 24 minutes. Not to mention he was assured by the memphis brass that he would have an opportunity to compete for the starting job, and if you he will lose to Conley you would be mistaken. You think he is going to come to memphis, make them relevant nationally, make them all sorts of money, and then be insulted by a 24 min bench role?
+1
AI will win a starting role.
