Too Short: Nate Robinson Rumored to Veto Trade to Grizzlies
According to Newsday.com's "Knicks Fix" section, the Memphis Grizzlies and the New York Knicks agreed to trade reserve guard Marcus Williams and a draft pick for disgruntled super-sub Nate Robinson.
The only problem was that Nate Robinson didn't agree to the trade.
Of course this is isn't necessarily a perfect truth, it is, after all, being reported by one of New York's relatively smaller media outlets and didn't even make it out of the blog section. Get over the jump for the rapid react and be sure to get your word in the comments.
But it certainly makes a lot of sense. It's no secret that the Knicks are looking for cheap filler, shopping Nate Robinson, and would love every draft pick they can grab. And anyone who watches the Grizzlies know they have a huge hole in the bench, need three-point shooting, and aren't afraid to play under-sized guards.
Marcus Williams has proved somewhat effective this season, though his game still looks extremely questionable, but has barely played for the Grizzlies since they signed veteran and, somehow, stabilizing force Jamaal Tinsley. And the Grizzlies have plenty of draft picks to throw around, with three first-rounders this season (their own, the Nuggets, and the Lakers).
This move certainly would have made the Grizzlies even more dangerous on offense, although it certainly could have exacerbated any sort of "who shoots" questions since Nate Robinson is a highly talented but largely one-dimensional player. And it wouldn't have helped the defensive problems either, Nasty Nate isn't exactly known for giving lock-down effort.
Still it's good to hear that Michael Heisley is truly open to improving this team even if the price is a little steep, adding Nate would have cost the Grizzlies a little more than $3 million this year for around 20 minutes a game. Too bad Robinson wasn't quite as open to moving South.

fudge em..
i think its a good trade and a good situation for nate but if he doesnt want to come and be apart of this wonderful transition then fuck him, let his career die in the so called mecca. excuse the language i just get passionate about those shelby county blue bears.
Truth.
It is kind of shitty that he’d veto a move from a coach that hates him and get to play for a team that might go playoffs in the much better conference.
But I think part of it probably has to do with the fact that the Grizz are probably less likely than the Knicks to sign him to big money at end of the season with those bird rights (which is why he has veto powers).

Your Right about the money...
but i doubt the knicks even try to keep his contract considering all the LeBron and D.Wade rumors floating around, and with how management views him, unless he drops 41 every night for the rest of the season he will be shopped around and probably end up in a even worse situation than what he is in now or even unemployed and there arent many teams that get excited about an undersized guard that doesn’t play defense at all.
money?
how is he going to like getting paid $7 an hour as a supervisor at Wendy’s drive thru instead of the NBA now?
he'll learn...
I’m going to find out which Wendy’s he working at and show up with a Grizzlies Jersey with his name it. and while he is making me a number 6 I’ll politely inform him that he could have been a part of something special.
Impressive 6 points in 20+ minutes today, but still not a bad two game average though. If he didn’t want to be here, let him stay. We’ll be OK with Sam developing. There is no rush to try and force somebody here; we are developing nice and winning as well, which is a bonus.
absolutely..
we’ll be better than OK as soon as Sam learns what shots to take and not to take, on top of that three first round picks.(Unless my info is wrong we have three picks in the 1st round.) He is gonna wish he let them pull the trigger on this deal.
We do have 3 first rounders...
Our own (looking like 15-20), Nuggets (20-25), and Lakers (26-30). Wouldn’t be surprised to see one of those traded to either move up or acquire another bench player for this season, though.
