Exasperated: Spurs beat Grizzlies 104-97

If you want to get a sense of what happened in last night's game between the San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies, just read some of the post-game quotes:

"We seemed to be playing from behind the whole game," Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins said. "They're a smart, experienced team, and they kept playing with the lead they had. We'd run it down, they'd run it back up."

That doesn't sound too pleasant, does it? But it could just be the coaches take, right?

"Under six minutes, we felt like we really couldn't get a stop," Mayo said. "They were making shots. Roger Mason did a good job of spreading the floor. George and Ginobili did a great job of attacking and making plays for others."

Since O.J. Mayo kept the Grizzlies in this one tonight, scoring 28 points since Marc Gasol and Rudy Gay were both held under 10 for first time in a long time, I think that he's particularly qualified to have the last word on the front page. Now suffer a little of my analysis below.

Star-divide

I'd like to say Grizzlies played well but just got beat by the Spurs tonight. Unlike in their last meeting, the Grizz tried to push the tempo, but the Spurs pushed right back and finished stronger. Roger Mason Jr. seemed to hit every big shot, which is his living in this league, and a little extra Manu Ginobili combined with George Hill was enough production to make up for missing Tony Parker. And that Tim Duncan guy nearly triple-doubled, scoring 19 point, with a sound 9 boards and 7 dimes.

But the Grizzlies didn't play well tonight, so Coach Hollins and OJAM have good reason to be a little bit down. Despite near season-low production from two starters and the majority of the bench, the Grizzlies fought it out and kept this one close. Because of season-low production they lost, though.

Who would you rather have?

George Hill or Mike Conley? I’d take Hill…

At this point I would definitely take Hill. He is so much more active/athletic/aggressive it’s not even close in my opinion. Conley has his moments but is not a starter.
