Losing to the San Antonio Spurs was fine. So was losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Those two teams are both more skilled and have a pedigree that Memphis can't hope to match.

Losing to the Houston Rockets wasn't pleasant, but it happens. Houston is a tough matchup.

Even the New Orleans Hornets are respectable. Obviously they're much, much less respectable without Chis Paul, but again, they're a pretty decent team.

Dropping this game against the Timberwolves though, with both teams on the end of a back-to-back, was ridiculous. If the Grizzlies want to make the playoffs, they have to win this game. But they didn't.

Rudy Gay scored 27 points but Ryan Gomes nearly matched him on the other end with 26 of his own. While Mike Conley put up decent scoring numbers, he wilted down the stretch and, in the opinion of most of my trusted Grizzlies watchers on the Twitter, lost this game for the Grizzlies.

The trade deadline is approaching, and while the Grizzlies 4 starters have gotten them this far, in my opinion they just don't have what it takes to make the playoffs without making a move. It's not up to Rudy, O.J. Mayo, Zach Randolph, or Marc Gasol any longer -- it's up to Chris Wallace.

To be fair...

The T-Wolves were probably due for a win, since the Grizz took their first 3 matchups.

Also, they'd won their last three games,

including the previous night in Dallas. This apparently is the annual breath of life tour for my bedraggled Wolves. Four wins in succession, followed by people fretting that they might botch their draft pick for the rest of the season. It’s a familiar process — perhaps even to Grizzlies fans.

Haha...

No we normally just blow our draft pick when we use it.

Damn Twitter...

Just for the sake of giving opinions this loss cant be pinned on Conley, like the article stated he put up decent numbers this time out and Sessions ate up the Suns early this season the same way he did the Grizzlies tonight, the constant problem with this Grizzlies team is not closing out games due to fatigue. The bench doesn’t allow the starters to set for too long because it can’t be trusted, so we need up with tired players who have to be on the court to finish games. Maybe Arthur coming back helps we will find out on Tuesday. Long story short can’t point the finger @mconley11 this time. #fact.<<<<< for the twitter folks.

I mean...

He did a lot to keep them in the lead at first, but he was undoubtedly not helping at the end of the game. Those turnovers, getting bullied by Sessions on both ends, setting up the offense slow because of the ball pressure — all mistakes that killed the Grizzlies chances.

I hear you boss..

but nobody really stood out late, two turnovers in the second half aren’t bad. Sessions did the same thing to Steve Nash earlier in the season. Yes all the mistakes hurt chances but did not kill them the whole team struggled.

Team loss

There is enough blame to go around. We are developing some bad habits and predictable sets. I think right now we’ve got a lot to do in allstar break to decide who will be major players for rest of this season and into next. Also I’ve had it with the cat-n-mouse game were playing with trying to get bench help. It is very apparent we’re trying to do something on the cheap and the whole league knows it. Are we setting ourselves up to have to overtrade to get anything done???
