Ugly as Sin: Grizzlies Hold On To Beat Nets 107-101

Not that there were many fans on hand to watch the Grizzlies play the league-worst New Jersey Nets, but the ones that were there should ask for their money back.

The Grizzlies were without Zach Randolph, who's quickly becoming a fan favorite, and it showed. The starting unit looked ugly at times, with DeMarre Carroll and Darrell Arthur platooning to fill the power forward spot. They just didn't seem fully comfortable despite New Jersey's poor defense.

Not that the D-Bro's played bad. DeMarre had an impressive but horrible looking 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals, earning himself a nice 25 minutes. And Darrell scored 7 points and had 3 boards in 18 minutes of play, which isn't awful either.

Defensively, this game could not have been worse, though. The Grizzlies had a solid 10 steals on approximately 100 gambles (not a real stat). Obviously both teams scored over 100 in this one and, quite honestly, I don't think it was the good offense that got Courtney Lee his 30 points.

A win is a win, and the Grizzlies will certainly take a win after losing 8 straight at home, but it would have been nice to see the Grizzlies look good against the worst team in the league. Instead they looked, merely, just a bit better than the New Jersey Nets.

How long is Z going to be out with this stiff back?

I don't think we know...

It’s likely he only sat b/c they were playing the Nets. Also he was a last minute scratch, so I think it’s fair to assume he wasn’t too hurt.

The Nets...

seem to have found some traction lately. they are playing much better since the break, but definitely would have been nice to blow them out. oh well, a win is a win – now if we can just stack enough of those together to find our way in to the 8th spot in the west! gooooooo grizz!

the bench got up

I went to bed at halftime and very glad I did so! I thought it would be a close one with ZBO out but they built a massive lead. Of course I had good concern the lead would be erased in the 2nd half but I rather not have seen it happen and if it didn’t happen – then what is point of watching? Either they do what is expected or flame out miserably. So I am glad I went to bed. I know this is edifying commentary, but someone has to do it!

At least the bench produced. Lionell Hollins doesn’t seem to care about any storylines. I wonder what questions he would like to be asked? doesn’t like answering about Thabeet. doesn’t like answering about win or lose streaks. doesn’t like answering about the bench. doesn’t like answering about technicals or refs. The Nets have gotten some traction from Devon Harris and Courtney Lee but Brook Lopez and company need to be sent to the DLeague for a lesson in humility and pride.

Haha...

I’m not sure I’d say Brook Lopez needs to go to D-League, but you’re spot on about the rest of them (CD-R and T-Will especially).

As far as the bench, they were playing against Keyon Dooling, Jarvis Hayes, and Kris Humphries. Just sayin’.

Point about Hollins is spot on. Dude hates talking.

Can't be upset with a Win..

Conley looked pretty good, Gasol is looking better than his brother more and more, Young came in contributed, and it was nice to see D-Carroll again it seems like its been a long time since he really got some court time. General question Why aren’t the Nets winning more games? Of course I have only really watched them twice when they were playing the Grizz but they have a decent team and that’s all you need to be in the playoff race in the east. Because of the record the Grizz are supposed to beat this team but by the talent they put on the court I think they can with any team in the game.

The Nets are bad for a few reasons...

1. Bad attitude: CD-R and Terrence Williams both want out more than anything else in the world.

2. Awful Defense: 27th ranked defense despite slow pace. Brook Lopez is really the only good defender on the team.

3. Injuries: Devin Harris has been hurt all season, Courtney Lee has been hurt on and off.

4. No forwards: They start Trenton Hassell and Josh Boone at SF/PF. 3 of their 5 best players are SG’s (Lee, T-Will, CD-R).

there’s a difference in “hanging with any team” and beating them. they don’t beat nobody
