Rookie Greivis Vasquez Has Ankle Surgery

Vegas Summer League is supposed to be your 'welcome to the NBA.' Given how often players go under the knife these days, though, it's more like your first real professional experience is your first surgery. I guess former Maryland standout Greivis Vasquez is now fully initiated.

From ESPN:

The Memphis Grizzlies say rookie guard Greivis Vasquez underwent surgery on his right ankle to remove a bone spur.

The team said in a news release Tuesday night that the surgery was successful and he is expected to return for training camp in late September.

Vasquez was injured while playing in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. The surgery was done in Baltimore.

Best of luck and a speed recovery to you, Vasquez, but the Grizz look to need a third, veteran point guard more than ever after this slightly disheartening news.

It was only a bone spur, so hopefully the recovery time is minimal.
