Grade the Trade - OJ to Minny
So this trade keeps popping up:
To Minnesota:
G OJ Mayo
To Memphis:
PG Jonny Flynn
SF Wes Johnson
C Kosta Koufos or C Nikola Pekovic (Memphis Choice)
I'm a Wolves fan who likes this trade, but I like to test the veracity with both fan bases to get an idea how realistic the trade is (surely Miami will take Darko for D-wade because they need rebounding and cap releif, right?;-)
I'm asking Minnesota fans the same question from their perspective over at Canis Hoopus - If Memphis made the above trade, how would you grade it for Memphis? Don't worry about the Minnesota end - just focus on how this trade would impact your team. At some point I'll re-post with the results from both fan bases. Thanks for your help!

If this trade was a woman, I’d break off my engagement and impregnate it right away. Love this trade

If the Grizz were to wait until the off season,
I think they could get more for Mayo. Possibly a team who has one year to make in impact would acquire his services for a little more. I’d kind of like a second round draft pick either this year or next with this but that’s just nit-picking.
I voted C+...
Flynn has been banged up but has talent . Wesley Johnson likely will develop in to a solid player. Not sure much on the bigs – I don’t watch enough Twolve basketball to gauge their value and I don’t think you can look at their numbers and value them. Not enough PT.
That being said, I think the Johnson and Flynn for Mayo favors the Griz in the long run… to me it boils down to whether the Twolve bigs are worth Thabeet and, unlike most, I’m not ready to give up on him yet. He dominated college with absolutely no offensive game, so I don’t know why people are so shocked that it’s taking time for him to develop. If this trade happened though, it’s a fair and reasonable move and I’ll assume good for the Griz as far as money goes.
Thabeet dominated college?
That’s a bit of a stretch. He was above average in college, I’ll give you that, but he had more than his fair share of awful games. At best though, he was above average, and that’s with an incredible coach in Calhoun. Id be more than fine with trading him away, and if, by some miracle, he develops into even a league average player, I’ll be happy to eat my words.

how is that a stretch?
his junior year he went for 13.6 points, 10.8 boards and 4.2 blocks shooting over 60% from the field. He was a Rivals.com 4 start recruit coming out of highschool. He was co-player of the year in the Big East and he won the Big East Defensive POY the year before along with the Natonal Association of Basketball Coaches Defensive POY. There was talk of him leaving college his Sophomore year.
You can say “above average” maybe offensively, but he was possibly the best defensive player there was when he came out. Not to mention his rebounding – no one expected him to dominate the points category. I don’t see too many “awful games” in this line:
