Sign Gasol now!

Hamed Haddadi has probably seen his last game in a Memphis jersey, which will be hard enough on us Grizzlies fans, not to mention Darrell Arthur getting beat up more while playing out of position when Marc gets some rest every game. That's the picture if they take their time to sign Gasol.

Sign him now so we can try to keep Hamed. If the salary cap is lowered after Gasol is signed, deal with that then. It can't be as bad as losing him. We can't lose both of our big men. If Haddadi leaves as a free agent, we still need a back up center, and we won't get one as good as Haddadi.

Sign Marc and sign Hamed, or I'll have to go into the "Fire Chris Wallace" t-shirt business.

Of course I want Gasol back...

but, Hamed is another story (caveat: Darrell Arthur is one of my favorite Grizzlies). I think he’s fine, and if he’s willing to sign for the minimum, fantastic. Otherwise, I think we can find an adequate 4th big elsewhere.

When we signed Haddadi 3 seasons ago, the hope was that he could match his FIBA production in rebounds and blocked shots. Basically, he was an cheap gamble. However, over the course of 3 seasons, he’s played a total of 528 minutes in 86 games, for an average of 6.1 minutes/game. His rebounding numbers per 36 minutes are quite strong, as are his blocks, and he has a stellar PER. That being said, it’s a very small sample size and I have to wonder why he hasn’t gotten more playing time, especially after Thabeet was traded. Maybe Lionel Hollins knows something we don’t.

Look, as long as Gasol is our center, Hamed’s (or his replacement) just not going to get regular mintues so we might as well just get someone cheap. I’m sure we can find a player in the D-League capable of giving a solid 5-10 minutes a game.

By the way, sorry

I’ve been reading SOV for a while, but haven’t posted much, and I got a bit overzealous.

I like Arthur a lot also, but he is not a true “big man”. That is why he faded in the OKC series. Double H is a shot blocking machine and at over 7 feet tall, a better than average back up at center. The Grizzlies biggest problem facing them (outside of signing Gasol, of course) this coming season will be their bench. Without Hamed, that will be an even bigger problem come playoff time against a team with some tall wide bodies.
Anyway, thanks for your comment. It is always good to hear from a Grizzlies fan.

As I said

I do like Hamed, but money is tight, and I think we can find someone in the D-League who can replace his rebounding and shotblocking.
